In our efforts to equip individuals with corporate governance best practices, the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda organizes corporate governance trainings for Senior Management, Committee Members, Compliance Officers, Company Secretaries, Audit Professionals, Risk Management Professionals, Change Managers, Accounting Professionals, Procurement Professionals, to mention but a few which take place twice a year.

The ICGU specializes in training Senior Managers and Board members in corporate governance practices for sustainability of their organizations and personal career growth through continuous professional development.  With the growing need for practical skills, this comes in as the best tool to equip Directors and Senior Managers with their duties and responsibilities to manage their organizations based on the best principles of corporate governance.

The Institute therefore is pleased to recognize and congratulate members who have excelled in corporate governance trainings.

We urge more individuals to undertake these trainings to understand the need for effective corporate governance standards and how to implement them in their respective organizations.

ICGU Members Interface Gala

The Institute hosted its members to the inaugural member’s interface gala held on 15th November, 2018 at Hotel Africana Kampala.

This gala follows the Inaugural Corporate Governance Awards held on 17th May 2018 to recognize and inspire organizations that uphold corporate governance principles and practices in the Country.

This membership day ran on the theme: “corporate governance and stakeholder engagement”.  Stakeholder engagement is a huge topic that includes:

  • Gathering and sharing information;
  • Dealing with concerns and grievances from your partners and customers
  • Measuring the impact and importance of different stakeholder groups
  • Communicating through various methods, and much more. 

In other words, “Companies that excel at stakeholder engagement excel in business and attract investments”.

As a strategic goal of sustainability, the members’ interface gala aims at improving member recruitment and retention for ICGU.

We would like to thank all members and their sponsoring institutions for honoring our invitation, the President of ICGU, Council and Committee members for the stewardship and guidance and the staff for coordinating such a beautiful event.

We at the institute, reaffirm our commitment to continued vigilance of governance issues and membership growth and retention.

ICGU signs MOU with ULS

The Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda (ICGU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Uganda Law Society (ULS) on the 25th May, 2017 at the Uganda Law Society Head Office.

The purpose of this MOU is to formalize a relationship between the ICGU and ULS to enable the two Institutions work together to promote and implement Corporate Governance Principles and best Practice.

The Institute held its 15th AGM on the 18th May, 2017 at Hotel Africana Kampala. At that meeting there were elections where 8 new council members were elected for the available vacant positions.

The AGM was well-attended recording a big turn-up compared to the recent past meetings.

The Institute held its 14th AGM on 18th May, 2016 at Grand Imperial Hotel, Kampala.

Ms. Christine Kawooya, the Vice President addressed the members and in her opening remarks, she thanked members for their continued kind support to ICGU and encouraged them to bring more individuals and corporate entities on board to increase the Institute’s membership.

Mr. Sam Owori was elected on Tuesday, 9th August, 2016 as the President Rotary International 2018/19 at the Rotary International Headquarters in Chicago, USA.
